The Surf Shack

 Current News:

Sharks,
Many people hear the word and flee from the ocean.  In recent years the seal population along the coast of Cape Cod has been skyrocketing.  The seal reserve off the coast on Chatham and Montauk has been a success in doing just that.  Unfortunately the area has become a buffet for one of the oceans largest fish, the White Shark.  With the first successful tag of the animal in the Atlantic happening this past late summer and excess of 15 taggings taking place thereafter, the area is becoming more and more of a shark hot spot with each consecutive shark season.  Nauset beach was closed to swimmers, and you were able to surf "at your own risk."
People (mostly tourists) need to realize that these animals have always been there, when you enter the ocean you are effectively entering the food chain.  Out of our element we are at the mercy of mother nature.  But it is no need to freak, just pay more attention to your surroundings and your fellow swimmers/surfers.  Chances are in your favor and truth be told, you are more likely to be struck by lighting while paddling out.  Happy rides

After a strong pulse in late August set off by hurricanes Bill and Danny, the tropics have been pretty un-productive.  Recent low pressure systems have been producing some decent wind swell, but nothing compared to the long period ground swell of a category 4 hurricane.  A look at the satellite radar of the Atlantic (link below), recently shows a significant swirl out over the Northern region.  Unfortunately it is moving towards our friends in Europe, so expect some swell to hit France in your heading there.
